I Didn't Plan for This

But given the theme for the year, I probably should have

In January our church had an unexpected snow day, which kicked off a meditation on the word still, which became the theme for Winter Solace 2025. (If you haven’t registered for that yet, please do! I’m about to set up workshop sign-ups.)

I had another enforced “stillness” episode in late August when I got covid for the second time.

So you might think I would have prepared myself for this, but I didn’t. And actually, there hasn’t been much stillness this December—rather the opposite—but because of that fact, it has turned out that I’m just not really writing here. You may have noticed. I owe the Pilgrimage Outfitters an annual newsletter and even that hasn’t happened yet.

I have decided, halfway through the month and in preparation for January’s retreat, and also next week’s Holy Day, that I’m taking a Substack break for the rest of the year. But it did seem fair to tell you about it.
